McHenry County PADS Transportation Program

Lack of reliable transportation is often a barrier to people trying to work their way out of homelessness. Although PADS provides transportation assistance in the form of travel vouchers, train tickets or bus passes; public transportation in McHenry County is limited both in the hours of operation and in the service area. In response to this problem PADS began the Van Transportation program in 1998 with leased vans from PACE. PADS now operates it’s own van transportation program thus, enhancing the coverage area and times available. Rides are available to transport homeless and low-income people to the Day Center to receive valuable services and meet with their case manager, to the emergency shelter sites from October 1 – April 30 and to job interviews, social service agency or medical appointments.
